NLLA’s response to NLPL Budget Cuts

Posted on

Following last week’s release of the controversial 2016-17 provincial budget, the Newfoundland and Labrador Library Association (NLLA) feels compelled to speak on behalf of the province’s valued libraries and library patrons, to emphasize the increased importance of our public libraries during this financial crisis, and the impact of the cuts to both libraries and their patrons.

The NLLA has sent advocacy letters in response to these budget cuts to Cathy Bennett, MHA, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board (view PDF), David Brazil, MHA, Official Opposition Critic for Advanced Education and Skills, Education and Early Childhood Development, and Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs, Dale Kirby, MHA, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, and Lorraine Michael, MHA, NDP Critic for Advanced Education and Skills, Education and Early Childhood Development.

UPDATE: This response, dated May 5, 2016, was received from Education Minister, the Hon. Dale Kirby.
